With the exception of V (Sunbeam) and M (Firebird) classes, all boats which race with FSC will be assigned a handicap in an attempt ensure that racing is fair. There are several handicapping or rating schemes used:
- IRC: a rating evaluated annually by the RORC, which employs a multitude of measurements of the boat and its sails.
- Working Boats: a local handicap applied to the Working Boat fleet(s) which is revised on the basis of performance.
- Gaffers: a local handicap applied to the gaffer fleet, which is only occasionally revised.
- SWYTC: the South West Yacht Time Correction (abbreviated to YTC): FSC has now adopted YTC as a yardstick for pursuits; as a secondary rating system for Q, E and U classes; and as the primary rating for W. A YTC may be obtained from the SWYTC Handicap Committee There is no cost involved and you will receive a shiny certificate.
Boats sailing at FSC in 2020
The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly curtailed race entries. For example, the Working Boat Association has decided not to participate in racing this year, and most of the boats are in mud berths or otherwise not sailing.
As the 2020 season progresses the table will be revised to reflect changes.
