Skinner's Tuesday Points, 20.05.14

37 boats came to the start line for the last of the Skinners Series, with trophies still to be decided in several fleets. Thanks to Skinners Brewery for their fantastic ongoing support. Kaye Price was Race Officer and used the full width of the Carrick Roads basking in sunshine and a good sailing breeze. Several boats raced for the first time this season and we welcomed the working boats and Sunbeam fleets for the first time.

G Class had a five boat fleet and Mike Maguire showed the rest of the fleet a shiny transom and won comfortably. E Class and the bar welcomed back the drinking machine of Hawk under the tiller waggling skills of Chris Bell – now well recovered from his winter session of injury. Excelle won the series and Scorpion came second overall.

The largest fleet again was U Class and the series was dominated by Mandy Owens and her crew on the Nordic Folkboat Aurora who won her fourth race of the series to get the bragging rights in the Clubhouse. John Cruise and the mighty Mary Boon, the most sailed boat in the Harbour, had to settle for second overall and Bob Chapple was third in the series in his GK24 Wilkie.

David Cunliffe in Encore won the big boat series in Q class, Incite won the white sail class and Lyulph Hesling won the Sunbeams. The multihulls were a win to Mike Webb.

A great series dominated by perfect sailing conditions, strong competition, excellent race management and a great sponsor – sailing nirvana.
