Falmouth Week: Host Club FSC

flag Wow what a week and what a great day we had at Flushing Sailing Club! Low cloud and rainy mizzle started the morning and for those of us on the water the wind was light and shifty. Back at FSC the volunteer ladies and gents under the guidance of our Rear Commodore Jennie prepared sandwiches and arranged donated cakes ready for the onslaught when hungry crews returned. The bars were readied in the Club and big Marquee. Sadly the Working Boats took fright with the forecast weather and went to Fowey, so numbers were down. No matter, the Club filled and over spilled.

more red arrows Out in the Bay we were abandoned, literally as the wind went cyclonic and died completely. Engines revved and we headed for home after a busy week. Teas and food were consumed and copious amounts of beer drunk. Flushing sailors did well on the day's racing and excelled in the week's results. Well done everybody.

After a delay the prizes were given for the day with some witty banter and good laughs all round. Mike, “The Head” Chard was awarded the bottle of Champagne for the incident of the week. Len Trenoweth had the other bottle for the most number of first places.

Coby The Enormous raffle was then started and Jennie picked a three-year-old boy “Coby” (right) to pick the winning tickets. Some fantastic prizes were won and £522 went into the general fund as a result. Well done indeed Jennie and Coby. Donors are listed below. Thank you all.

The main prize giving then took place and again FSC sailors came away with numerous glasses and cups then all to soon the crews went home and left the army of volunteers to clean up. Well done to all the Bar Staff, Tea ladies, Giles the boatman, Len for the Sunbeam finishes and everybody who chipped in to make it a great day.

Out on the water over the whole week, FSC is a major supporter of Falmouth Week. Many of the volunteers on the various committee and finish boats are FSC regulars. For one of the smallest clubs in terms of membership, we punch well above our weight.

We have a busy week ahead with the Fowey boats Sunday and returning Monday and then FSC hosts the prestigious Half Ton Cup. See you Tuesday eve for racing. Please do not be too disappointed if the results are a bit late as some of us will have been out on the water all day!!
