Mash Derrick

Mash's funeral will be held on Friday 9th February at Potager Garden, High Cross, Constantine, TR11 5RF.

Mash wanted his funeral to be informal and celebratory, and with this in mind, he also suggested that – as a shorts wearer whatever the weather – people may wish to wear shorts. If this is not for you don't worry, but he would like people to be in colours rather than black please. If the weather is amazingly good then the service will be outside, but even if not please dress warmly, and wellies with thick socks (especially if you go for the shorts option!) may well be a good idea. Grilled Kipper

The service will be at 12.30 but you are invited to arrive from 11.30am when you can, if you wish, write some of your memories on cards which Claire will keep for Torin and Morven as they grow up. Mash will be in a cardboard coffin which Torin and Morven will have decorated beforehand with some paint, and depending on what they would like, there may also be an opportunity for you to write a message or add your fingerprint or handprint to the coffin, again only if you want to.

There will be tea and biscuits on hand before the service (Mash rarely being seen without a cup of tea to hand). After the service there will be some soup and bread, or you can bring your own food for a picnic.

The family will leave at 1.30 to take Mash to the crematorium for the committal, and then return for afternoon tea (scones being one of his main food groups). The family will probably be gone approximately 2 hours, so if you wish to leave after the service/lunch, please don't feel you need to wait for our return. Or you may wish to go and do something (e.g. the Helford is close by for some lovely walks and beaches) or visit Trebah or Glendurgan Gardens. If you would like to bake some biscuits or cakes for the day, please let me know so we can make sure we don't have hundreds of flapjacks and nothing else!

There is rather limited car parking at Potager, and the top car park (signed for deliveries and disabled parking) will be needed for cars going to the crematorium, so please follow the signs for the main car park and lift share if you can. If you will have spaces in your car, please get in touch with me so that we can arrange lift shares if possible.

Also just to warn you – we will be filming the service and taking some photos; this is because Torin and Morven are so young and unlikely to remember much if anything, so we hope it will be a record for them of when and how we said goodbye.
